Let’s Revive Our Culture, Norms and Values. Great Things Start from Small Beginnings.
The home was owned by the late Hero TG Silundika. As Plumtree community, they decided to honour their legend, Mr Silundika. They agreed that his home be converted to a cultural centre to showcase and revive the Kalanga and Matabeleland South as whole culture especially for the Youth, who have totally lost their identity to Western culture.
As the Plumtree community, they convene annually in June – July to commemorate the Kalanga for 2 – 3 days.
Trainings are held to boost women, youth to boost them with practical trainings to start income generating projects to alleviate poverty within their community and boost their livelihood.Â
To honour this legend who had great future for the children and communities in Matabeleland South, nearby wards in Bulilima – Plumtree formed committees for spearheaing all the activities happening in this home. Two committees are working hand in hand, the one mainly for infrastructure and the one for cultural activities meet regularly.
The community upon seeing this effort worked tirelessly for this home to be in this stage. They removed the western roofing from this big house and replaced with thatch. For these huts, pole and dagga with this type of thatch represent the Kalanga houses. Young men and women participated in this so they learn this kalanga style of huts.
