Gala is one of the villages in ward 6 that fall under Headman Manguba and Chief Gambo III. Each one of the villages has a population of between 600-700 inhabitants. There are four primary schools and one secondary school in Ward 6. These are Gala, Ntoli, Kungubo and Manguba.

The secondary school, Phakama was built in 1985 and offers education up to O level. The school has 8 trained and 5 untrained teachers. The biggest challenge for students and teachers are books and other study material.

This library will go a long way in addressing this challenge and improve the pass rate. The long term plan of the village will be to include computer lessons in the curriculum. This memorial library will also feature TG’s work for the country before and after the liberation struggle as well as thousands of photographs that Mafela Trust has pledged to donate to the library gallery.
